Federal Minister for the Environment and Nuclear Safety Dr. Barbara Hendricks reappointed the Chairman of the Reactor Safety Commission  (RSK) Rudolf Wieland and the Vice Chairman Richard Donderer for another year and appointed four new members to RSK.Mr Wieland has headed RSK since 2011. On behalf of Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety RSK conducted stress tests of the seventeen German nuclear power plants in spring 2011  following the nuclear accident in Fukushima, Japan (that lead to the phase-out of nuclear power in Germany by 2022 ). Mr Wieland is chairman of the executive board of TÜV Nord Systems and chairman of TÜV Nord Sys Tec. (TÜV is a technical inspection association). Mr. Donderer is physicist who founded Physikerbüro Bremen.
Professor Dr. Marko Koch of Ruhr University Bochum, Professor Dr. Robert Stieglitz of Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), Rob Jansen of the Dutch nuclear supervisory authority “Kernfysische Dienst” in Den Haag and Uwe Jorden, plant director of the Brokdorf nuclear power plant, have been appointed as new members of RSK. This will boost research and international expertise, BMUB said.
RSK is an independent committee that advises the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety on all questions relating to the safety of nuclear facilities. The seventeen members are appointed for one year.
