291.639 MWp New PV Capacity in August – 34.79 GWp Total

New PV capacity additions in August 2013 amounted to 291.639 MWp, bringing the total German PV capacity eligible for feed-in tariffs to 34.791 MWp, the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) announced.

Based on the latest information published by BNetzA (please note that figures may be subsequently corrected upon new information without leading to a new publication of the monthly figures), the August 2013 capacity additions lead to the following table of German PV capacity eligible for financial support pursuant to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).

Year Month kWp kWp
End of 2008 6,120,000
Installed 2009 3,801,572
End of 2009 9,921,572
Installed 2010 7,377,678
End of 2010 17,299,250
Installed 2011 7,485,234
End of 2011 24,784,484
Installed 2012 7,604,142
End of 2012 32,388,626
01/2013 274,673
02/2013 211,215
03/2013 290,470
04/2013 367,717
05/2013 344,225
06/2013 309,240
07/2013 313,005
08/2013 291,639
Installed 8/2013 2,402,184
Total 31.08.2013 34,790,810

The new August capacity (291.639 MWp) is slightly lower the average for the year to date (300.273 MWp).

Should about 300.000 MWp be added in the following four months of the year, i.e. 1.2 GWp, new capacity in 2013 would amount to about 3.6 GWp. This would be well below the annual totals of the three previous years and almost be within the corridor of 2.5 to 3.5 GWp envisaged for PV growth by Section 20a para. 1 EEG.
