The German Cartel Office has imposed fines totalling EUR 24.3 million against the producers of power transformers ABB AG, Alstom Grid GmbH, Siemens AG, and Starkstrom-Gerätebau GmbH because of restrictive agreements concerning calls for tenders.

The EU Commission is becoming increasingly displeased with Germany’s energy policy and its lack of European coordination, the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) writes. Climate protection and energy efficiency could be better promoted on a larger scale than by individual national measures, EU Energy Commissionar Günther Oettinger said at an energy conference organised by FAZ and the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI).
To better tap the energy efficiency potential of industry and trade – accounting for one third of Germany’s energy consumption – the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) has set up a new support programme.

At the Husum WindEnergy 2012 Fair, the Federal Association of the Energy and Water Industry (BDEW) presented the latest data on wind power generation in the first half of 2012 in Germany. It showed an increase of 1.1% to 29.697 billion kWh compared to 29.385 billion kWh in the same period last year.
After cutting solar feed-in tariffs to rein in solar expansion this summer, wind power expansion in Germany needed attention, Environment Minister Peter Altmaier said in a morning show of the public television station ZDF. Wind power expansion in the sixteen German states had to be coordinated and scaled back to a “reasonable level”, he demanded.

The Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) has made an updated list available on the internet showing German power plant capacity as of 12 September 2012. In addition, BNetzA published a table listing power plants under construction and plants which the operators intend to close down.
Clearingstelle EEG (EEG Clearing Agency) has completed an advice procedure regarding a grandfathering clause for solar feed-in tariffs that was included in the last amendment of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
