Parliament’s decision to cut solar feed-in tariffs as of 1 April 2012 apparently lead to (another) boom in new solar capacities in the first quarter of 2012, Financial Times Deutschland (FTD) reports. Between January and March new plants with a capacity of almost 1,900 MW were installed, compared with 513 MW in the same period last year, the paper writes.

In a press release the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) responded to the Greenpeace initiative regarding financial risks due to the high costs for the dismantling of the nuclear power plants following Germany’s withdrawal from nuclear energy until 2022. BMU explains the legal and factual details and says decommissioning was guaranteed.

The Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) informed that it started collecting data for the Monitoring Report 2012 to which the German Cartel Office also contributes. The report, due to be released at the end of year, will provide detailed information about the developments in the German electricity and gas markets in 2011, including the electricity and gas networks.

Applications for a limitation of the EEG surcharge under the special equalisation scheme for electricity-intensive enterprises and rail operators now have to the made online via a special internet page of the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA), the office informed.
In accordance with legal requirements under the ManyElectronics Act (EnWG), the German gas transmission system operators published the draft for the first national gas grid development plan (NEP Gas) for the period 2013 to 2022 on their joint website www.netzentwicklungsplan-gas.de. A preliminary draft had been submitted for consultation in late February 2012.
Almost 300 gas and electricity network operators appealed the decisions on grid charges by the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA), claiming higher grid charges. Last week the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf (OLG) held oral proceedings in 19 pilot cases.
